I took my first balloon ride with a friend as pilot (thanks Jim) in 1981 and became hooked on the thrill of flying in a laundry basket attached to a bunch of nylon.  I crewed (it's a group sport) for this friend for a couple of years and thought that becoming a pilot would be a great thing.  With encouragement from my wonderful wife, I did just that.  What a ride the next few years would be.  The highlight was starting a balloon event in Valley of the Gods, Utah which endured for 20 years.  This gallery contains image mostly taken after I quit piloting but came out to "play balloons" with friends.  I never get tired of seeing these big air bags flying in the red rocks of Arizona and Utah.
